Link to the full video in my bio. Muir expressed his admiration for both Brigitte Beraha and Norma Winstone, and in particular Winstone’s trio recordings with Glauco Venier and Klaus Gesing. This influence is clearly evident on the exquisite ‘Silent Acknowledgement’ with Muir’s sparse and introspective opening before being joined by Beraha’s crystalline voice. Cowley’s bass clarinet completes the illusion, and it is quite remarkable how Muir has taken so much from Winstone’s trio and still managed to create something very personal when working from the same tonal palette. - Jazz Views ‘Silent Acknowledgement’ opens with a piano introduction that was recorded in just one take. Muir commented on the “beautiful lengths of sound” from the Steinway model D at School Farm Studios and he certainly makes the most of the “intimacy of the sound” in this piece. Beraha’s vocals are particularly hypnotic, bringing to life Bhat’s subtle lyrics, set to a melody that has distant echoes of Bill Evan’s ‘The Peacocks.’ This is another trio moment for Muir, Beraha and Crowley and a masterclass in space. - UK Jazz News The album Home Now is out now on @ubuntumusic

Bringing the music to life in the studio with these incredible musicians was a truly memorable experience, and my heartfelt thanks go to Brigitte Beraha, George Crowley, Jakub CywiΕ„ski, and Eric Ford. Three of the tunes feature lyrics by Anjali Bhat, and they shine a light on some of the experiences of being human that are not so easy to describe.
